Shellscape Reopens!

Well, it's taken nearly three years for me to get off of my hind quarters and get the site back up and running in some kind of formal capacity. shellscape.org will now play host to Shellscape Software and take the place of carbon.shellscape.org (carbon 6 software), the moniker for my software I have used for many years. Support Forums will be coming soon, although at a later date yet to be determined.

I hope you'll all enjoy the software I have to offer here and spread the word about Shellscape.

Thanks for visiting!

Welcome to Shellscape Software

Shellscape Software offers all users quality freeware and open source desktop and web application software. We are always expanding and looking for new developers to improve the selection of software available here.

Shellscape's History

Shellscape.org was first created in 1999, in the hayday of alternative shells for windows, by an enthusiast who went by the alias 'DariusX'. The earliest known incarnation was that of an alternative shell and related software news website. When shellscape started it was instantly popular and had a good run for nearly two years. However, as with most hobbiest websites, shellscape went down sometime after May of 2001. Shortly thereafter, another alt. shell enthusiast involved with geoshell picked up the shellscape.org domain and revived the shell news site. The goal of this revival was to provide unbiased and equal news coverage to each windows alt. shell available. Something which was not available on the most popular freeware news sites of the time. Shellscape.org reported on general freeware news for another two years until the alternative shell community started to slow down, following the release of Windows XP. Shellscape then entered a dormant state, but remained an actively maintained domain.

Shellscape has been brought back again to bring users some fun software to use at no cost.
